This photographer, Susan Burnstine, created a three-part series that focuses on her childhood disorder of vivid nightmares. She states that she would often walk around not sure whether she was awake or asleep. This created an interesting blur of conscious and subconscious, waking and sleeping, magic and reality.
Her work is completely and wonderfully surreal. She often uses one female subject meant to be a loose representation of herself. Burnstine creates the images by constructing her own camera from other cameras and household items that make the camera technically challenging. Thus, she found herself with these dream-like images that give a resonating feel of being awake and asleep, existing in that limbo.
